HISTORY

The Institute of Physical Chemistry (IPC) as a research and educational unit within the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) was established in 1958. It inherited the scientific tradition of the Chair of Physical Chemistry at Sofia University (1927- 1934) and of the Crystal Growth Department at the Institute of Physics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1944-1958). Initially, it was headed by Professor Rostislav Kaischew, Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Members of the Academy Prof. Aleksey Scheludko, Prof. Jordan Malinovski, Prof. Evgeny Budevski and Prof. Stefan Christov are prominent originators of new research topics at the Institute of Physical Chemistry.
